R-Wyoming
77th District
Committees: Banking & Financial Services (Vice Chair);
Senior Health, Security & Retirement (Vice Chair);
Commerce, Health Policy
Green was elected to the Michigan House of
Representatives in 2004 and represents the 90,000
residents of Wyoming and Byron Township. Kevin’s
political career began in 1999 when he was elected to
the Wyoming City Council – the youngest candidate ever
to do so. He quickly earned a reputation among both
citizens and business owners as conscientious and
hard-working. In 2003, he set another electoral record,
winning his re-election bid by the largest margin of
victory in a race between two candidates, earning 83
percent of the vote.
In 1992, he earned a bachelor’s degree in
business administration from Central Michigan University
in Mount Pleasant and was honored as Salutatorian of his
class with a 3.9 Grade Point Average. That year, he won
the prestigious Wall Street Journal Award given to
outstanding college seniors.
After graduation, Kevin worked for Toys R’
Us, serving as the business manager, supervising human
resources and financial operations. He would later work
in the office of the City Manager of Cedar Springs, and
become involved in the local Chamber of Commerce. In
1995, Kevin accepted a position as real estate and
community relations manager for Gannett Outdoor (now
CBS). He also served as the government affairs manager
for CBS, directing community relations and advocating
public policy.
Alongside the start of his career with CBS
Kevin also became active in the Wyoming Area Chamber of
Commerce and the Chamber’s Government Affairs
Committee. In 1997, Kevin was elected the Chairman of
that committee. He would go on to serve on the
executive committee of the Wyoming Chamber. In 2002,
Kevin was elected Chair of the Board of Directors.
Kevin, with other Chamber leaders, launched a long-term
strategic planning committee and proposed an expansion
of the Wyoming Chamber to include the neighboring City
of Kentwood. His initiative was successful and today
the two communities are served by the combined
Wyoming-Kentwood Area Chamber of Commerce.
Kevin has a great love for community
service. He served as Vice President of the Arbor Lake
Condominium Association, Vice President of the Wyoming
Lions Club, and a member of the Kent County Senior
Citizen Senate. Kevin is active in the Wyoming Jaycees,
where he was honored as Outstanding Young Government
Leader of the State of Michigan in 2002. He continues
to be an active community volunteer, donating thousands
of books every year to area libraries and schools.
Kevin and his wife Chele (pronounced Shelly) joined
Michigan legislators in early 2006 for a mission to
Mississippi to help out with Hurricane Katrina relief.
Kevin is a leader amongst the members of the
House of Representatives. In his first term he served
as Vice-Chairman of two committees and as an Assistant
Whip – an important position within the House Republican
Caucus. After winning re-election in 2006 with 67
percent of the vote, Kevin was elected Republican Whip
by his caucus. In this role, Kevin is one of the top
four leadership members of the Republican Caucus and is
the captain of an eight-member whip team. The Whip
helps to manage the caucus and acts as chief liaison and
consensus builder between leadership and caucus members,
with the goal of promoting effective policies.
Representative Green grew up in a small town
and is the son of two public school teachers: Joe and
Colleen Green. Kevin and Chele have been married for 5 ½
years. Chele is an accomplished business professional
currently involved in several business projects within
the community. She works in sales, strategic
planning/management, and bookkeeping. Kevin and Chele
balance their busy professional lives with regular time
spent with family and friends. Their daughter, Skylar
Anne, was born to Heaven on September 6, 2007. The
Greens are Christians, and are members of the
congregation of Mars Hill Bible Church in Grandville.
They live in Wyoming along with their cats, Oliver and
Vixen.
